Government Spending
The Diseases of Cancer and Government
By Richard Callahan
As one who has spent the last several years fighting cancer, I see great similarities with it and the direction of our government.
Cancer saps the strength from your body for it's own selfish purposes. Eventually, if left unchecked, it destroys the body. It grows uncontrollably and is almost impossible to constrain without taking aggressive, painful and uncomfortable measures to directly confront it. Without these measures, cancer will prevail at your expense.
The government is similar. It is constantly intruding into our lives restricting our freedom of choice for it's own selfish purposes. It too will prevail and destroy us if not aggressively challenged, regardless of the discomfort, and eventually brought under control.
Government intrusion is taking away our freedom of choice, absconding with our hard-earned money for redistribution, not as we who earned the money see fit, but rather as it sees fit. In general, government is attempting to dictate the very fabric of our lives. We cannot allow the promise of a few dollars of entitlements and government subsidies to blind us and take away our rights and individual liberty. We must resist, as with cancer, in order to preserve our lives.
This should not be misconstrued as a total rejection of government by any means. Government has its rightful place as established by the founders of the Constitution, to protect our country from foreign invasion, manage monetary policy, etc. But, government is not to control the minute details of our lives and to be the ultimate decision maker when it comes to how we dispose of our monetary accomplishments.
We have become complacent with respect to government allowing it to intrude. It is time to stand up and demand that government become our servant, not the opposite.
